Backpackers in Melbourne

This Blog is about various backpackers in Melbourne. I am not being paid to write this blog, so you will get my own opinion based on my experiences from staying in various Backpackers around Melbourne. I will give the pro's & con's of each venue, with Links to the backpacker's to find out more info.

Greenhouse Backpacker 5/5! http://www.friendlygroup.com.au/
This is probably one of the best backpackers you will find in the Melbourne CBD area. It has won numerous awards which confirm this status. While slightly more expensive than other backpackers, with dorm rooms $28-$32, single rooms around $80 depending on the season, you get what you pay for. However as this is a popular backpacker, you want to book in advance. Checkin is 12pm, Checkout at 10am, $10 key deposit. Photo ID or passport required

Pro's:
Cleanliness- Greenhouse prides itself in providing clean rooms. The toilets & showers are in good working order & definitely useable.
Free internet!- while it does not support flash player & is a bit limited, it's free! enough said.
Great Facilities- The Greenhouse backpacker has a clean & spacious kitchen, a common area with a pool table, tv area & a funky vibe.
Tours & Events- Aside from offering the usual Melbourne tours that any Backpacker offers, it offers great trivia nights, a tour of 3 pubs with a free drink for $5, breakfasts & food which are free or a gold coin donation.
Rooftop Smoking Area- large & spacious with a great view.
Location- Situated a 2min walk from Flinders st Station, Tram stops, Federation Square & Degraves st cafe's & shops.
Security: situated right next to a police station, thus deterring troublemakers & being handy if things go pair shaped during your stay in Melbourne. The staff are willing to store valuables such as phones, wallets & laptops ect as well as having lockers & security boxes.
Booking: Booking a room/dorm only requires a phonecall, no credit card details required

Cons:
A bit more expensive than  other backpackers, but still worth it.
Popular: especially during peak seasons, you will have to book WELL In Advance! I tried to book a single room for the 1st of october 2 weeks beforehand & had no luck.
Payment- They only take payment on the day of checkin, which means you can't pay in advance.
